What I’m Wearing Today

Please excuse the look of my blemished face, I keep saying I’d like to try Proactive again to even things out, but I really want a specific kit that QVC offers and it’s forever unavailable. I’ve been stubborn and have been trying to wait for it to be available again, but I’m about to just bite the bullet and get a smaller kit to start with while I wait. I believe the Georgia springtime allergies are having a bit of an effect on my skin also.

The Outfit:

  • Shoes: Report {found here}
  • Jeans – my good ol’ Joes best friend style {found here}. I’m really poor on jeans right now, which didn’t use to be the case, but I CANNOT for the life of me find jeans that I love and fit me properly. Also when I buy jeans I want real jeans not the super thin stuff some stores seem to be dishing out. Have any of y’all tried and had success with the new Levi’s that you take a curve quiz for?
  • Top: J.Crew Factory Lace Front Popover {found here}. Psst it’s on clearance! :)
  • Earrings: Nordstrom CZ Round Studs {found here}. They’re such a staple in my wardrobe.
  • Bracelet: J.Crew Carlyle Bracelet {circa 2010}

IT’S FRIDAY! Are you feeling like THIS too? I as well as many of you, I’m sure, are super excited for today, it’s Fridayand Hunger Games comes out today! My boyfriend and I are dying to see the movie and we haven’t even read the books, they’re on my list though. I made sure to purchase advanced tickets so that we would definitely be able to get into the theater. I highly expect this to be an event with many a kid sporting a Hunger Game T-shirt. haha.

Have a lovely friday! I hope your work day flies by and you enjoy your start to the weekend!

I wanted to share a few of my favorite bold patterned iPhone cases I found while shopping for my own. I currently have this case from Kate Spade, and while I think it’s really cute I’ve found that my phone likes to almost fall out of it, has my iPhone lost weight or has my cover some how stretched? I’m pretty sure we all know the answer. How sad. I decided my next cover was going to be a hard case and no, I’m not ready to give into the bulky so called indestructible cases just yet…or probably ever.

iPhones seem to have made it as one of our great techie fashion accessories or, they are if we choose for them to be. I wanted something fun, funky and kind of bold for spring/summer so I chose #4. Something about it says free spirit and music festival to me. Maybe I long for sunshine, braids in my hair and chill music? I’m not a hipster chick, but I still love the case. I was hoping to have it in my possession before posting my finds. I’m not so lucky, it’s been lost in the mail. USPS tracking says I should have had it on Friday, buuuut I’m still waiting. I’ve placed a phone call to my local Mr. Mcfeely {anyone else now uncomfortable with that name after growing up having watched and loved Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood? anyways…} and so I wait and wait to hear what has come of my pretty lost cover.

Update: Just when I was about to call the Post Office again {because shocker I never heard back from them like they’d promised}, I pulled up my tracking info to have it ready for the call. Wouldn’t you know, my tracking information had magically changed and the delivery date did as well. I got my case that day. I love it, it fits like a glove {and won’t stretch b/c of the material} and it’s SO cute. Just an FYI about Society6: they use Case-Mate cases. If you’re wondering if I’d recommend it – yes, yes I would. :)

Oh, How Pinteresting

The fresh minty hue have been popping up everywhere in fashion – nail polishes, accessories, clothing, shoes, all of it! Mint is such a pretty color and though it makes a great non-gender specific baby color it’s proven it’s place in the world of woman’s fashion as well… and a great color to decorate with! I love the use of minty freshness in the home, it’s SO pretty. I actually have a fun minty-ish/seaglass-ish colored vintage tiered side table in my living room. :)

Homemade {dairy & soy-free} Oatmeal Creme Pies

Tags

I can remember trying Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pies as a child and liking them, but then hating the feeling that followed – an allergic reaction. Those seemingly innocent pies made my mouth and throat feel funny, like my throat was about to close. That kind of reaction was even before my dairy allergy moved from barely there to I can’t handle it at all and before soy was a noticeable issue. Either way, bad news bears!

When I found the following recipe I thought it would be fun to adapt it to be me allergy friendly. I just hoped that altering the recipe wouldn’t leave the cookies lacking something…it didn’t. They’re delicious!

Oatmeal Creme Pies {recipe adapted from Nosh With Me}

Cookie Ingredients

      • 11 tbsp Canola Oil
      • 3 tbsp Mashed Banana

{This gives the cookie just a hint flavor of banana, you can eliminate it by using 7/8 c. canola oil instead of the 11 tbsp + banana combo. I like the flavor with the banana and that it eliminates some oil.}

      • 3/4 c Brown Sugar
      • 1/2 c Sugar
      • 1 tbsp Molasses
      • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
      • 2 Eggs
      • 1  1/2 c Flour
      • 1/2 tsp Salt
      • 1 tsp Baking Soda
      • 1/8 tsp Cinnamon
      • 1  1/2 c Quick Oats

Creme Filling Ingredients

      • 2 tsp Very Hot Water
      • 1/4 tsp Salt
      • 1 scant cup Marshmallow Fluff
      • 1/2 c Spectrum Palm Oil Shortening
      • 1/3 c Powdered Sugar
      • 1/2 tsp Vanilla

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F & prep cookie sheets with parchment paper.

    • In large bowl, oil, mashed banana, sugars, molasses, vanilla, and eggs.
    • Combine flour, salt, baking soda, and cinnamon.
    • Add to the creamed mixture; mix in the oats.
    • Drop dough by TBS on parchment lined sheets. {You can vary scoop sizes for different sized pies, I’ve done small, med., and large ones with this recipe.}
    • Bake at 350 degrees F.
    • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until just starting to brown around the edges.
    • They will look moist; don’t overcook.
    • While the cookies bake prepare the filling.
    • In small bowl, dissolve the salt in the hot water.
    • Allow this to cool.
    • Combine marshmallow cream, shortening, powdered sugar, and vanilla in med bowl; mix on high until fluffy.
    • Add the cooled salt water and mix well.

Spread filling on flat side of one cookie, press 2nd cookie on top

There’s a new chick in town making oatmeal creme pies and they’re even allergy friendly. ;)

Hope y’all enjoy them as much as I do and really, everyone that I’ve made them for, allergic loves and non allergic loves alike.

xoxo,
